Redefining what it means to feel included in the water regardless of who you are. Bringing the feeling the waves give us to the minority or low income dreamer.
ABOUT GHETTO SURF CLUB
One day we were out surfing at The Hook in Santa Cruz and got caught up in some gnarly rips. Some of the crew of the camera gear jumped into the water with a wetsuit and some fins. With their camera gear in hand, swimming out on their backs, they were determined to get some wicked shots of locals riding the waves. After two hours, they were determined to get out. If you know the area, then you'll understand how far out they were. Pushed out all the way to Steamer Lane, they cramped up and the camera straps ripped.
Determined to SURVIVE, they pushed on for hours until they finally made it close to shore. Both hands were tied up holding the camera in one hand and the fins in the other. What were we thinking? GET OUT NOW! Except it isn't your typical stroll into the beach out the water. The timing was so difficult, they were getting sucked into the rip and getting absolutely pummeled by the waves. Hitting the rocks and getting just trashed was terrifying. Avoiding the potential drowning that day was miraculous.
How else do you wind down from something like that? BREWSKIs... A thought came up after a couple beers and it sounded like an amazing idea the next morning. As we spent the afternoon watching the sunset and scheming the creation of Ghetto Surf Club, we knew we had something special here.
